Krav Maga (Hebrew for 'close combat') is the official self-defence and close combat program used by the Israeli Armed Forces.

Krav Maga integrates instinct-based self-defence techniques and tactics with the training of athletic aggressivness, awareness, preventive action and verbal de-escalation.

Krav Maga prepares the trainee tactically, technically, mentally and physically to solve familiar and unfamiliar problems as well as violent conflicts all under realistic stress levels.

The all-fighting-system can be divided into two parts:

Self-defence techniques and tactics

The learned techniques are the foundation of Krav Maga. They enable the participant to effectively defend him or herself against armed and unarmed attackers. The techniques are also practiced under aggravated conditions, e.g. low light situations, ground fighting, outdoors and/or in confined spaces.

Athletic aggressiveness and close combat techniques

Close combat comprises the advanced level of Krav Maga. Here the participants learn how to quickly and effectively incapacitate one or multiple opponents. This includes not only the various elements of a fight: tactics, technology, psychology and appropriate attitude of a fighter, but also how to deal with knifes, clubs and firearms.

What is the difference between Krav Maga and other martial arts?

Krav Maga focuses in training techniques defending both, armed and unarmed assailants on the street. Because most real attacks will not be held under competition rules, sporting competitions like in other martial arts are absent in Krav Maga. In training confrontations are realistically simulated under consideration of physical and psychological stressors.
The student learns to control his acting under pressure.

In numerous conflicts in recent decades Krav Maga has proven its effectivness.
Due to the global experience of civilians, military and law enforcement authorities Krav Maga is constantly evolved and adapted to modern hazardous situations.
The techniques that could be carried out in real conflicts remain in the system.

The KMG (Krav Maga Global) -
Guarantee of actuality and quality

Krav Maga was first developed as a military close combat system by the chief instructor for physical education and close combat of the Israeli army, Imrich Lichtenfeld.

In order to make the battle-tested system accessible to a broader audience Imi and his closest assistant, Eyal Yanilov, founded the IKMF.

After Imi's death Eyal Yanilov became head instructor of the IKMF. Since then Eyal and his team of Krav Maga experts built up IKMF to become world's largest Krav Maga organization.

Sensing that the IKMF worked better as an Israeli Sports Club than perhaps a professional international organization on the long run, Eyal Yanilov founded KMG – Krav Maga Global.

Since its founding KMG has ensured the optimal breadth and further development of Krav Maga through the high caliber of its instructors and effective structure. KMG has kept Krav Maga relative and modern through continuous improvement and constant every day use.

Maintaining the highest quality trainers and instructors requires first recruiting top talent and then building their capabilities and knowledge through months-long intensive instruction. Thereafter, instructors are required to attend special instructor seminars to remain current as well as undergoing a stringent annual certification process demonstrating to KMG leadership their continued knowledge and capabilities.
